Enquanto estava na Toyota, Darril estudou o Sistema Toyota de Produção como aluno da OMDD, o grupo interno de Senseis da Toyota. Ele também desenvolveu e implementou o Toyota Way 2001 na maior fábrica da Toyota na América do Norte e trabalhou com o Toyota Institute no Japão para implementar o Toyota Business Practice (TBP), liderando o piloto global deste programa, bem como as sessões para executivos sêniors da América do Norte.
